Devotion 12-15-08

Proverbs 15

What I mainly picked up from this chapter of Proverbs is in verse 29.

(Pro 15:29) The LORD is far from the wicked: but he heareth the prayer of the righteous.

People pray and pray, and then become very discouraged when their prayers aren't answered. Funny thing though, they aren't living a very fruitful lifestyle. They live a lifestyle that is focused on self and not God. They are caught up in a habitual sin that is completely destroying their closeness with God. I've been there.

Why does God hear the prayers of the righteous? Well, it's really common sense. Think about where your mind is when it is far from God (ie caught up in sin). Your cares and concerns are completely of self and of the flesh. What you are praying for is probably not even close to the will of God, and is probably completely stupid.

However, when you are "righteous" (ie having your devotions, confessing your sins, seeking God's will for your life) your prayers will be drastically different.

Point: If you want God to hear your prayers, line up your life with God's will.

Zechariah 1

Honestly, a lot of this went over my head. But a few commentaries later, I understood some of the prophecy. And I also got a theme for this chapter. "God's almighty power and sovereign dominion, should engage and encourage sinners to repent and turn to Him." -Matthew Henry's Commentary. **quicknote-Repent means to change your mind about sin, not to turn from it.

But this is such a compelling thought. If you would sit down and just be still, know that He is God. See how awesome He really is. Everything you are and have is because of Him. If that doesn't move you to repentance, I don't know what will.
